[English]

Spatial access to public services is an important component of urban well-being and a measurable aspect of the distributive dimension of spatial justice. This study analyzes the spatial distribution and pedestrian accessibility of selected urban services in Damghan and examines variations across the city in the diversity of accessible services. The study employed an applied, descriptive–analytical design and a quantitative spatial approach. The dataset comprised all 108 service facilities recorded in 1403 in the Iranian calendar (2024–2025), classified into nine components and five categories: educational, healthcare, cultural–religious, sports, and green and recreational services. After preparing the street network, areas of good and moderate accessibility were calculated for each component using the Service Area tool in ArcGIS Pro and service-specific network-distance thresholds. The accessibility areas of the nine components were subsequently overlaid to determine the number of service types accessible in different parts of the city. The results revealed a heterogeneous, polycentric, and service-dependent accessibility pattern. District 1 and parts of Districts 4 and 7 had access to a greater diversity of services, whereas parts of Districts 5 and 6 and several peripheral areas had access to fewer service types. Pharmacies exhibited a more concentrated spatial pattern, while the two public libraries produced limited and disconnected service areas. Mosques and parks were more widely distributed, although their coverage was neither complete nor continuous. Accessibility patterns for schools, healthcare facilities, and sports facilities also varied considerably across the city. The findings demonstrate that accessibility in Damghan cannot be explained solely through a simple contrast between an advantaged center and a disadvantaged periphery. Urban service planning should therefore move beyond reliance on facility counts and administrative boundaries and use actual network-based coverage and accessible-service diversity to identify spatial gaps and guide the future development of services.
