Abstract

In the present era, mega malls are known as one of the manifestations of urban life which have a wide-ranging impact on different groups of people, and the following article discusses the effects of these centers on women's lifestyles. The research method is qualitative and phenomenological, and 31 interviews were conducted in the city of Tabriz in 4 large shopping centers: Atlas, Laleh Park, Setareh Baran, and Ipak Palace in 2024. The sampling method was purposive and the interview process continued until theoretical saturation was reached, and then the results were analyzed using a 3-stage coding method (open, axial, and selective). The findings were divided into two general categories of social and cultural interventions, including the axial codes of interventions in women's freedom of dressing, control of social behaviors, and feminization of the shopping space; psychological interventions were categorized into the axial codes of wandering and liberation, exploitation of the topic of security, and changing women's attitudes towards security personal. By analyzing data based on women's divided awareness created by the consumerist differences between megamalls and other public places, it was confirmed that these centers commercially exploit demands such as freedom, security, and respect, which highlights the need to review open access policies that do not require the approval of capital-based structures in all public places.
